Policy Statements

Safety

The business of Naval Aviation is inherently dangerous. We will accept the inherent risks and avoid unnecessary risks. I expect the principles of Operational Risk Management to be factored into all of your decision making, whether in the aircraft or on any other endeavor. If it cannot be done safely, don’t do it. I trust and empower you to make the best decision. I will never fault you for making the safe decision.

Fraternization

HT-8 has built a reputation of excellence based, in part, on the professional and personal relationships that exist amongst its personnel. While camaraderie and esprit de corps are highly valued, however, unduly familiar relationships or the perception of such that do not respect the differences of rank or grade are contrary to good order and discipline. Those actions have no place in our squadron. Further, in order to accomplish the squadron's mission of training the world's best helicopter pilots, the integrity of the staff-student relationship shall be maintained at all times.

Harassment

Unlawful harassment, including sexual harassment, has no place in our squadron. We must hold ourselves to the highest level of personal conduct. Unlawful harassment includes verbal or physical conduct that denigrates or shows hostility to another because of their gender, sexual orientation, race, color, national origin, age, religion, disability, or genetic information. Each of us has a moral and ethical obligation to prevent unlawful harassment and be watchful to identify and intervene when necessary. If you are subjected to or observe harassing behavior, report the incident immediately.

Equal Opportunity

All Eightballers must be provided an environment in which they can perform to their maximum ability. We are members of the Eightball team that celebrates the race, color, national origin, gender, age, religion, or disability of our members. Unlawful discrimination will not be tolerated. As Eightballers, we are a cohesive unit focused on common goals and the mission, strengthened by our diverse perspectives. It is what makes us “America’s Squadron.” All Eightballers are to be treated equally and fairly.

Suicide Prevention

We must all remain vigilant and observant for suicidal behavior and cues. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Be ready to intervene and to help your shipmate! Your compassion, care, and intervention can save a life. If you are feeling suicidal, we want to help. No matter how desperate the situation may seem, it can be overcome. Any member of the Eightball team will immediately stop whatever he or she is doing and render assistance to anyone contemplating hurting himself or herself.
