CDR Jason L. Hathaway

CDR Hathaway is a native of North Eastern Arizona and received his commission upon graduation from the US Army Officer Candidate School in 2000. He began his military career in the Marine Corps joining a Light Armored Reconnaissance Reserve unit in 1990 where he served as infantry scout, team leader, and platoon Sergeant. After completing his enlistment in the USMCR in 1998, he joined the Utah National Guard and attended Army Officer Candidate School and Flight School. He served in Afghanistan as an attack helicopter platoon leader, company commander, and battalion operations officer before joining the Coast Guard. During his time in the reserves, his civilian job was with Salt Lake City Police Department as a patrol officer, SWAT, and detective.

CDR Hathaway's first assignment in the USCG was to Sector North Bend as an H-65 SAR pilot from 2006 to 2010. He served as the unit training officer and scheduler before taking over as the Command Security Officer. During this tour he completed a Master of Arts in International Relations and Conflict Resolution from American Military University.

CDR Hathaway then joined the Hellions of HT-28 as a flight instructor at Navy Flight School in Pensacola, FL where he served as Senior Coast Guard Instructor and later as Training Wing 5 Standardization Officer for rotary wing flight training. In 2014, CDR Hathaway took a temporary separation from the USCG to complete his time with Salt Lake City Police Department, retiring and then returning to active duty in the USCG.

CDR Hathaway was selected as the Assistant Operations Officer at Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi from 2016 to 2019. He supervised all rotary wing operations for three aircraft, 15 pilots, and 42 flight mechanics. Primarily responsible for the execution of Law Enforcement and Search and Rescue missions along the South Texas coast. As the senior MH-65 Flight Examiner, he monitored professional development of all pilots and aircrew. His training programs and leadership were put to the test during the Coast Guard response to hurricane Harvey where he and his crews were the first to fly in the storm and conducted continuous operations until rescues and recovery operations concluded.

CDR Hathaway then served as the Coast Guard Attaché USDAO Kingston and non-resident Coast Guard Attaché to the Cayman Islands from 2019-2022. He represented the United States in defense and military related matters with foreign governments in Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, and throughout the Caribbean.

CDR Hathaway's most recent assignment was as the USCG UAS Joint Program Office Supervisor, leading a combined team of Coast Guard and Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations aircrews conducting MQ-9 Predator operations both CONUS and OCONUS. He served as the senior CG advisor to the Director of National Air Security Operations Center and subject matter expert for UAS and maritime aviation operations.

CDR Hathaway has accumulated over 5,000 flight hours in multiple military aircraft. His personal awards include selection as USCG Exceptional Aviator of the Year for 2017, the Combat Action Badge, Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Coast Guard Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (3 awards) with V device, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Coast Guard, Navy, and Army Commendation Medals, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Coast Guard and Army Achievement Medals along with numerous other personal, service, and unit awards.
