The primary mission is that of an armed, tactical helicopter, capable of high-speed flight; multiple weapon fire support; reconnaissance by fire; and troop helicopter support. Mission profiles cover the air-to-ground (ATG) and air-to-air (ATA) environment.

The missions of the aircraft include: sea and air deployment operations; air assault operations; amphibious assault and raid operations; fire support; close air support; interdiction operations; air-to-air operations; coordinate battlespace maneuver and integrate with firepower; joint personnel recovery; rear area security; and noncombat evacuation.

The primary mission of the helicopter is movement of cargo and equipment. External cargo may be suspended from hooks using either single or two-point suspension systems. When so equipped, the helicopter may be used for vertical delivery of cargo and equipment, and airborne mine countermeasures (AMCM).

The MV-22 is a multi-mission aircraft with many applications including medium lift assault support, Tactical Recovery of Aircraft and Personnel (TRAP), emergency evacuation, fleet logistics support, logistics support ashore, long range logistics support, and medical evacuation.
