YN1 Tyrone L. Ferguson

On April 5, 1987, Tyrone L. Ferguson was born in Orange, NJ. He attended East Orange Campus High School in East Orange, NJ. He holds a Master of Public Health, a Master of Arts in Psychology (with Honors) and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (with Honors) from American Military University, and an Associates of Applied Science in Psychology from Georgia Perimeter College. He enlisted in the Navy out of Athens, GA on March 29, 2008.

Upon graduating from Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, he attended Master-At-Arms 'A' School at Dam Neck, VA and reported to Navy Operational Support Center Atlanta, Security Detachment 232, at Dobbins Air Reserve Base, Marietta, GA, in January 2009 as a Selected Reservist. During his tour with SECDET 232, he completed one deployment to the Sea Port of Debarkation in Kuwait and the North Arabian Gulf in Iraq, where he conducted port security operations. While onboard, he advanced to Petty Officer Third Class and earned the Enlisted Expeditionary Warfare (EXW) Specialist designator, along with a host of other qualifications.

Upon completing his first deployment, he reported to MSRON TWELVE Detachment Echo in October 2010 and deployed to Joint Task Force-Guantanamo Bay in June 2011. He conducted expeditionary detainee operations. While onboard, he advanced to Petty Officer Second Class. In June 2012, he reported to Coastal Riverine Squadron TEN, and deployed to the United Arab Emirates where he conducted port security and harbor patrol operations. While onboard, he requalified as an Enlisted Expeditionary Warfare Specialist for Inshore Boat Unit, along with earning a host of other qualifications.

He converted to the rate of Full Time Support Yeoman in July 2014 and reported to NRC Omaha in October 2014. During his tour, he served as an N1 Clerk, N3/N7 LPO, Public Affairs Officer, and Assistant Command Fitness Leader. In November 2017, he reported to Commander, Navy Expeditionary Logistics Support Group where he served as Travel and Pay & Personnel Department Leading Petty Officer. Shortly after arriving onboard, he advanced to Petty Officer First Class, earned selection as Sailor of the Quarter, second quarter FY 19, and requalified as an Expeditionary Warfare Specialist, along with a host of other qualifications.

In September 2020, he reported to the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness where he served as Human Resources Leading Petty Officer, Assistant Command Fitness Leader. While onboard he earned the OSD Identification Badge for satisfactory service on the OSD staff. In July 2023, he reported to Commander, Training Air Wing SIX, where he currently serves as Assistant Reserve Program Director, Assistant Urinalysis Program Coordinator, and Assistant Command Fitness Leader, among other duties.

YN1 Ferguson's personal awards include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (seven awards), Iraq Freedom Campaign Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and Armed Forces Reserve Medal with "M" and "3" Devices, along with a host of other service awards.
