Commander Jack "Tofu" Robie was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in History in May 2008. Upon his commissioning, he reported to NAS Pensacola for flight training and was winged at NAS Meridian in September 2010. Subsequently, he reported to Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 106 for initial training in the F/A-18 Super Hornet.
His first assignment was with the "Red Rippers" of VFA-11. For most of 2012, he deployed on the final cruise of USS ENTERPRISE (CVN-65) with Carrier Air Wing (CVW) ONE flying combat sorties in support of U.S. and coalition forces in Afghanistan. During this cruise he became an Enterprise Centurion and earned several "Top Nugget" awards for landing proficiency. He also qualified as a section lead, division lead, and mission commander.
In August 2014, then LT Robie reported to Training Squadron (VT) TEN for duty as a flight instructor in the T-6A Texan II. He served as ground safety officer, senior class advisor, CNATRA stage manager, and taught in the Flight Instructor Training Unit (FITU) for over two years. In December 2016, Robie graduated from the University of Tennessee with a master's degree in business administration.
In September 2018, then LCDR Robie transitioned to reserve service with the VT-10 Squadron Augment Unit (SAU). During his tenure there he has served as training officer, operations officer, executive officer, and FITU instructor. Additionally, Robie is an associate flight instructor at VT-86 flying the T-45C. In 2020 he was recognized as the Training Air Wing (CTW) SIX Reserve Flight Instructor of the Year.
Robie has accumulated over 4,000 flight hours in various aircraft and in his civilian career he flies with Delta Air Lines based out of Atlanta. His personal awards include the Air Medal (strike/flight award), Navy Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), Navy Recruiting Service Ribbon, and various other service, unit, and campaign awards.
