Executive Officer

Lieutenant Colonel Bowring grew up in Mt. Airy, MD. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in May of 2006 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, earning his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. After completion of The Basic School and Naval Flight Training, he reported to HMLAT-303, MCAS Camp Pendleton, CA for UH-1N Huey training.

Lieutenant Colonel Bowring completed UH-1N Huey training in 2009 and reported to HMLA-269 in Jacksonville, NC where he served in various assignments and deployed with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit three times from 2009 through 2015. His first deployment was with VMM-162(REIN) from January 2010 – August 2011 where he served as the H-1 NATOPS officer. His second deployment was with VMM-261(REIN) from March 2012 – November 2013 where he served as the UH-1 Flight Officer. In the winter of 2013, he transitioned to the UH-1Y and subsequently graduated from MAWTS-1 Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) Course 1-14. He then deployed with VMM-365(REIN) from December 2014 – June 2015 where he served as a Future Operations Planner and H-1 WTI.

In August 2015, Lieutenant Colonel Bowring reported to Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS) in Quantico, VA. He graduated from EWS in May 2016, and was awarded both the Geiger and Johnson Awards for leadership and academic achievement. He subsequently reported to MAWTS-1 in Yuma, Arizona for duties as a UH-1Y Instructor Pilot and finished his tour at MAWTS-1 as the UH-1 Division Head.

Lieutenant Colonel Bowring returned to Marine Aircraft Group (MAG) 29 in July 2019 where he served as HMLA-269's Director, Department of Safety and Standardization, the Gunrunners' Executive Officer and the Operations Officer for MAG-29.

Lieutenant Colonel Bowring reported to Marine Aviation Training and Support Group 21, Pensacola, FL, in January 2021. He served as the MATSG-21 Executive Officer and earned his initial instructor qualifications in the TH-57 prior to assuming his current duties as the Helicopter Training Squadron EIGHTEEN (HT-18) Executive Officer in June 2023.

Lieutenant Colonel Bowring's personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
