CDR Ryan Dorn

A native of Appleton, Wisconsin, Cmdr. Ryan Dorn graduated and commissioned from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2003, earning a Bachelor of Science in history and reported to Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida, for flight training in August 2007. He earned his Naval Flight Officer Wings in April 2009. In May 2009, Dorn reported to the VFA-122 "Flying Eagles" for initial fleet training as an F/A-18F Super Hornet Weapons System Officer.

Dorn began his operational flying in February 2010 with the "Bounty Hunters" of VFA-2. While a "Bounty Hunter," he made two deployments aboard USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72), participating in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation New Dawn.

Dorn reported to the "Flying Eagles" of VFA-122 as an instructor in February 2013. Dorn reported to the U.S. Naval War College in February 2016 and was awarded a Master of Arts in defense and strategic studies. Dorn reported back to the "Flying Eagles" of VFA-122 for an additional tour as an instructor.

Dorn returned to the fleet as a department head in VFA 94, the "Mighty Shrikes." While with the "Mighty Shrikes," he completed one deployment aboard USS Nimitz (CVN 68) in support of Operation Freedom Sentinel and Operation Resolute Support, serving as the quality assurance officer, safety officer, and maintenance officer.

Following his department head tour, Dorn served as the operations officer for Training Air Wing Six and was also hand-selected to serve as acting chief staff officer during a manning gap. He selected for squadron command in March 2022 and reported to the "Wildcats" of Training Squadron (VT) 10 in Pensacola as executive officer in September 2023.

Dorn has accumulated over 2,000 flight hours in 5 aircraft and over 300 carrier arrested landings, including over 50 combat missions. His awards include the Strike/Flight Air Medal (2 awards), Navy Commendation Medal (3 awards), and Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various service awards and ribbons.
