Commander Baker, a native of Gulf Breeze, Florida, attended Norwich University and graduated with distinction in 2000. He earned his commission through NROTC and was designated a Naval Aviator in 2001. In 2009, he received a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Naval Postgraduate School.
At sea, he served as a SH-60B pilot with the "Easy Riders" of HSL-37 where he deployed to the Arabian Gulf in 2002-2003 embarked USS Port Royal (CG 73) with Expeditionary Strike Group One, in 2005 embarked USS Chafee (DDG 90) with Carrier Strike Group Eleven, both deployments were in support of OPERATIONS IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM. In 2009, he reported to USS Essex (LHD 2) forward deployed to Sasebo, Japan where he served as the V-1/V-3 Division Officer, Aircraft Handling Officer and "Mini Boss." During his disassociated sea tour on the "Iron Gator," he qualified as Officer of the Deck Underway and was recognized as Naval Helicopter Association's (NHA) Region-One Shipboard Pilot of the Year. Following his transition to the MH-60R in 2010, he reported as a plank owner to the "Swamp Foxes" of HSM-74 for his Department Head tour where he served as Officer-in-Charge of Detachment Three onboard USS Normandy (CG 60), and completed his tour as Operations Officer, deploying with Carrier Air Wing Three onboard USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) to FIFTH Fleet in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. During his time as Operations Officer, HSM-74 earned the Battle Effectiveness Award, Arleigh Burke Fleet Trophy and Captain Arnold J. Isbell Trophy for operational excellence.
Ashore, he served as an Instructor Pilot at HT-18 onboard NAS Whiting Field. While at HT-18 he served as Student Control Officer and Assistant Standardization Officer. In 2013, he reported to Defense Intelligence Agency's Missile and Space Intelligence Center (MSIC) onboard Redstone Arsenal, Alabama where he served as Deputy Division Chief for Defensive Systems and Technical Data Analysis Divisions and completed his tour as Branch Chief, Integrated Intelligence. In 2017, he reported to U.S. Naval Forces Central Command/U.S. FIFTH Fleet in Manama, Bahrain where he served as Combined Maritimes Forces (CMF) Current Operations Director, responsible for the daily coordinated employment of CMF's multi-national Naval Forces and three Combined Task Forces across 3.2 million square miles. CDR Baker reported to Training Air Wing FIVE on NAS Whiting Field as Chief Staff Officer in January 2018.
Commander Baker has accumulated more that 2,900 mishap-free flight hours. His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (strike/flight), Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy Achievement Medal and various campaign and service decorations.
