command patchReserve Component // Training Air Wing Five

History

Established: July 1979

Established in July 1979, the Training Air Wing FIVE Reserve Component provides a cadre of highly experienced Selected Reserve Flight Instructors to assist the Commander, Training Air Wing FIVE in attaining pilot production requirements and provide a surge capability through complete integration of reserve force personnel. The unit consists of Augmentation units in all six of the Wing's training squadrons and frequently helps staff the Fixed-wing and Helicopter Instructor Training Units. Each member's primary duty is to provide Student Naval Aviators flight instruction; however their experience level has made them ideal candidates for work as NATOPS evaluators, Instrument/Standardization Check Pilots, Ground School Instructors, Mishap Board Members, etc.. Each member takes pride in "blending in" with their active duty counterparts in their respective squadrons. Most Student Naval Aviators don't realize that there are Selected Reservist Flight Instructors in their squadron!

The Reserve Component has flown more than 100,000 accident-free flight hours while completing more than 65,000 student sorties and has earned the reputation as the most productive and efficient Reserve Component in the Naval Air Training Command. This cost-effective unit provides the immediate mobilization capability required by today's Navy. The Reserve Component provides the right reservist at the right place at the right time every time!
