CDR Michael S. Schloss

Cmdr. Michael "Riddles" Schloss, a native of St. Marys, Ohio, enlisted in the Navy in June 1997. After completing boot camp at Recruit Training Center Great Lakes, he attended "A" school in Orlando, FL where he received designation as a Machinist's Mate. While at Nuclear Power School, Schloss received orders to the United States Naval Academy. He graduated on May 24, 2002 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and was commissioned in the Marine Corps. Following The Basic School (TBS), he completed flight training at the 8th FTS and VT-9, earning his "Wings of Gold" on June 3, 2005.

Schloss completed the AV-8B "Harrier" training syllabus with VMAT-203 at MCAS Cherry Point, NC. He was then assigned to the VMA-542 "Tigers" where he served in operations and as the Aviation Safety Officer (ASO). In September 2007, he deployed with his squadron to Al Asad Airbase in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM. Following this deployment, he became the ASO of 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing (2d MAW) where he served as the lead aviation safety inspector for 35 subordinate aviation commands.

In January 2010, Schloss reported to the VT-3 "Red Knights" for duty as a flight instructor. While at VT-3, he served as ASO, Safety Department Head, and NATOPS Officer. In October 2013, he once again put on a Navy uniform following a transition to the Navy Reserves and assignment to the VT-3 SAU. He took command of the SAU is January 2022.

Schloss has flown more than 2,800 flight hours and has over 9 carrier landings. Personal awards include the Air Medal (3 strike/flight awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards), and various unit, campaign and service awards.
