Our Mission

Training Airwing FIVE Reserve Component is a Naval Air Reserve Augmentation Unit assigned to NAS JRB New Orleans. The unit is detached in direct support of Training Air Wing FIVE (TRAWING FIVE) at NAS Whiting Field. TAW-5 Reserve Component's Selected Reserve (SELRES) Flight Instructors are equally divided among five augmentation units supporting TRAWING FIVE'S five Training Squadrons, VT-2, VT-3 , VT-6, HT-8, HT-18, and HT-28.

Training Air Wing FIVE Reserve Component provides a cadre of highly experienced Selected Reserve Flight Instructors to assist the Commander, Training Air Wing FIVE in attaining pilot production requirements and provide a surge capability through complete integration of the reserve force personnel. The unit consists of augmentation units for all five of the Wing's training squadrons and frequently helps staff the Fixed-wing and Helicopter Instructor Training Units. Each member's primary duty is to provide Student Naval Aviators flight instruction; however their experience level has made them ideal candidates for work as NATOPS evaluators, Instrument/Standardization Check Pilots, Maintenance Pilots, Runway Duty Officers, Ground School Instructors, Mishap Board Members, etc.. This cost-effective unit provides the immediate mobilization capability required by today's Navy.
