Commanding Officer

CDR Guy Henry

Commander Guy Henry was born in Texas and grew up in Michigan, California, and Wyoming. He received his commission through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program and graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder with a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Geology and Anthropology in May 2004.

Commander Henry's first assignment was with VX-23 at Naval Air Station Patuxent River. In March 2005, he reported to Pensacola, Florida for flight training and received his Wings of Gold in January 2007. Henry reported to Helicopter Anti-Submarine Light (HSL) 41 for SH-60B Seahawk training in San Diego, and began his first operational flying tour with the “Battle Cats” of HSL-43. Henry deployed on USS RODNEY M DAVIS (FFG 60) and the USS LAKE ERIE (CG 70) and served as Schedules Officer, Detachment Maintenance Officer, and Squadron Assistant Operations Officer.

Following his tour with HSL-43, Henry was selected to participate in the Personnel Exchange Program and reported in 2010 to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada as an Instructor Pilot with 406 Maritime Operational Training Squadron flying the CH-124 Sea King. Henry completed the RCAF Sea King community's transition to Night Vision Goggle operations, supported US State Department Consular missions, International Traffic in Arms Regulations inspector, and was the U.S. Naval Aviation subject matter expert to the Royal Canadian Navy Atlantic Fleet. Henry left Canada for his disassociated sea tour, serving as the Helicopter Element Coordinator with Destroyer Squadron 26 in Norfolk. There he supervised the air department and search and rescue programs for 11 destroyers and frigates. He also served as the lead air planner and execution control officer for six major exercises, including three JOINT WARRIORs in the United Kingdom.

Affiliating with the Navy Reserves in Jan 2015, Henry served as Administrative Officer for 3RD FLEET Joint Forces Maritime Component Command Detachment Phoenix. There he participated in numerous exercises and positions in the J3, supporting DAWN BLITZ 2015, RIMPAC 2016, and TALISMAN SABRE 2017. He was mobilized from Oct 2017 through Dec 2018 to Joint Special Operations Command. While attached to JSOC, Henry spent 11 months deployed supporting OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE with Joint Task Force as the Joint Special Operations Air Detachment Director, J3, and government flight representative for the Middle East theater. After returning from mobilization, Henry served as the Operations Officer and mission lead for exercises for North Atlantic Treaty Organization Allied Command Transformation Detachment Washington, DC.

Commander Henry has accumulated over 3000 military and civilian flight hours and three type ratings in medium-twin engine helicopters. His decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy Achievement Medal, and various service, unit, and campaign awards.
